![]() ![]() On Sundays, April enjoys reading Family Circus and traveling through time. She has the ability to fire beams of tacos out of her hands and she can turn her legs into tigers. Īpril was responsible for uploading the staff bios onto the Pawnee parks and recreation site, and she jokingly made a fictional bio for herself that reads as follows:Īpril Ludgate-Dwyer was born in Björk’s house in Iceland and grew up on Easter Island, where her parents were giant stone heads. She was assigned the internship because she overslept on intern sign-up date, which she blamed on her sister Natalie for not waking her up. Her family calls her "Zuzu".Īpril is extremely uninterested in her job, regularly napping at her desk and texting constantly, and acts very dry and sarcastic around her co-workers. She has a younger sister, Natalie (Minni Jo Mazzola), who is similarly bored and apathetic. ![]() April is of English and Puerto Rican descent, which she says explains her "lively and colorful" personality, and is fluent in Spanish. She lives with her parents, Larry (John Ellison Conlee) and Rita ( Terri Hoyos), who, in direct contrast to their daughter, are warm and friendly. She speaks in a blasé, deadpan manner, and appears bored by everything and everyone. April, along with Plaza's performance, garnered universal acclaim and has gained popularity for her goth-like behavior and deadpan-style comedy.Īpril Ludgate is a college student who starts out working as an intern in the Pawnee parks and recreation department. Once it did find its footing, I don't think there's ever really point in Parks and Rec where things just aren't working, but that's very true for long stretches of The Office. While I think it could be argued that P&R could have maybe ended a season before it did, or would have been better had it ended a season before it did, I don't think it's final season is bad by any means and I think it still works really well. Parks and Rec also had the benefit of not losing its central character, and it didn't go on for far too long like The Office did. While they both start off shaky, I do think I'm probably in the minority in thinking that Parks and Rec started getting good earlier in its run than The Office did. I don't think either are the best sitcom (either of all time, or the 21st century, or the 2000s/2010s, or whatever), but I think Parks and Rec is, overall, strong than The Office.
